Professional Learning at Holy Family

Outline:

This Wiki is the base for all our Professional Learning Projects, initiated in Term 3, 2007.

So far we have developed 4 main groups:

  • Project A/ Learning Log A-QT Differentiation
  • Project B/Learning Log B-ICT/' Engagement'
  • Project C/Learning Log C-Prayer
  • Project D/Learning Log D- Boys Ed

The teams will record progressive reflections & ongoing conversations by means of their Logs (blogs), but general outlines of the projects, resources and findings will be recorded on this wiki.

Goals:

Research clearly indicates that a whole-school approach to professional development is needed, one that is coherent, on-going, site-based, targeted at improving school-wide practices, aligned with school learning goals, tailored to the people and the place.
Joan Dalton, PLOT, 2002

How we process adult professional learning is an interesting exercise. Good learning principles should cover both adults and students. At Holy Family we are attempting to use a different approach to PD this term.We have asked staff to reflect on school goals and personal goals in order to attempt to approach Professional Development in this 'new' way-one where staff will initiate projects based on their individual/combined needs and interests. The topics will be drawn from initial reflections on these areas:

1. What areas of my teaching practice would I like to:
Improve
Refine
Extend
?

2. As I reflect on the students in my class what areas do I need to:
Develop
Refine
Extend?
to improve student outcomes?

The following ' desired outcomes' are also being 'factored in' to the final individual outcomes for each project:

Professional Learning at Holy Family must
  • believe that quality learning and teaching is critical to improving student learning
  • build school-wide approaches to high quality learning and teaching
  • strengthen and focus our professional community on improved practice and student learning
facilitate professional learning that makes a sustained difference to teacher practice and
    student learning
